Data Snapshots

Data Snapshots are cards that hold data visualizations and provide a glimpse of a data set. They often link out to more detailed views of that data (Data Stories and Data Grids). Snapshots are featured on landing pages or dashboards, and when gathered together they give an at-a-glance look at the bigger picture the data.

Specifications

A range of sizes of Snapshot cards are available to provide flexibility in presentation and allow for proper hierarchy. They can take up three, four, six, eight or all 12 columns.

Snapshot Grid
Snapshot content is organized on an internal 12 column grid, set within the margins specified in the card types below.

The following specifications include all elements that may be present on a data touchpoint. Remove elements as your content requires, while maintaining spacing.

Large | 8-12 columns of page grid (75-100%)

Large Snapshots take up most of the width of the page. These cards are best suited for data with many categories or viewing data over a longer period of time.

Medium | 6 columns of page grid (50%)

Medium Snapshots maintain prominence on a dashboard, but are best suited for fewer categories than large Snapshots.

Small | 4 columns of page grid (33%)

Small Snapshots are best suited to 3-4 categories of data. You’ll find specific recommendations on each chart page.

Extra Small | 3 columns of page grid (25%)

Like small Snapshots, extra small Snapshots are best suited to  3-4 categories of data. You’ll find specific recommendations on each chart page.

We also use extra small Snapshots to express key performance metrics, or KPIs. These are key values that your audience cares about most, and thus should be surfaced. Key metrics feature a single data point as a large number, and usually run across the top of the screen.

Page Layouts

Your product may require static content or a fully fluid layout. By adhering to the styles outlined here, you can build Data Snapshots that work for your specific environment, while contributing to a consistent Aon experience.
